Template

Reason through the organizational change in {change_context}, since most change efforts fail on adoption, not on the plan. (1) Be specific about what actually needs to change — the behaviors, not the aspiration — because "become more customer-centric" isn't a change anyone can act on, while "engineers talk to five customers a month" is, and vague change goals guarantee vague results. (2) Diagnose the sources of resistance honestly before trying to overcome them: people resist change for reasons (loss of status, competence, or control, or genuine disagreement), and treating resistance as mere stubbornness rather than understanding its cause is why change is imposed and rejected. (3) Establish why the change matters in terms the affected people care about, since a change that makes sense to leadership but not to the people doing the work won't stick. (4) Identify what must be in place for the new behavior to be possible: the skills, tools, incentives, and removal of the old system — because asking people to change while the incentives still reward the old way fails every time. (5) Plan for the transition's difficulty: things often get worse before better, and expecting a smooth curve leads to abandoning the change at the hardest point. (6) State the change, the primary resistance and how to address it, and the first concrete step — recognizing that changing behavior requires changing what makes the old behavior rational, not just communicating harder.
