Verify that a model's reported performance wasn't measured on the same data used to fit it. In-sample fit alone demonstrates nothing about predictive value — a flexible model can memorize its training data and fail on anything new. Confirm the evaluation used a genuine holdout, cross-validation, or out-of-time sample, and flag any claim of accuracy or predictive power that was never tested on data the model didn't see.
