Template

Generate a complete D&D Basic/Expert edition adventure module, approximately 12-16 pages when formatted, in the style of "The Temple of Elemental Evil." The output should be a multi-level complex dungeon adventure with the following sections:

1. OVERVIEW (1 page)
- Title of the adventure (create an evocative name for a ruined temple/fortress/complex)
- Level range: 1-5 (with a central core accessible only at 5+)
- A one-sentence hook for the DM
- Brief summary: a forgotten evil has returned to its ancient seat of power, and PCs must explore the expanding complex to stop it
- The central evil: name an evil deity or force and its goal

2. THE SURROUNDING SETTLEMENT (2-3 pages)
- A hamlet or small town built near the entrance to the evil complex
- Describe 6+ locations with atmospheric detail: tavern, inn, temple, general store, armorer, herbalist, well, blacksmith
- NPCs: at least 7 named NPCs with race, class/occupation, personality, desires, knowledge, and attitude
- Include: a paranoid priest, a nervous innkeeper, a retired adventurer who knows rumors, a child who went missing, a shady fence, a noble patron
- The settlement should have its own internal conflicts and problems

3. THE ENTRANCE LEVELS (levels 1-3 of the complex) (2-3 pages)
- Describe the approach through wilderness with 1-2 encounter areas before reaching the entrance
- The entrance should be well-hidden (hidden door, collapsed passage, underground entrance)
- Levels 1-3: The lower levels of a ruined complex that explorers have partially cleared
- 5-7 encounter areas, each with:
  - Area name and description
  - Monster inhabitants with simplified stats (AC, HP, attacks, special abilities)
  - A non-combat challenge: trap, puzzle, social encounter, or environmental hazard
  - Treasure: gold pieces, gems, magic items appropriate for levels 1-3
  - A narrative hook connecting this area to the larger story

4. THE MID-LEVELS (levels 4-6 of the complex) (3-4 pages)
- The heart of the dangerous areas: 5-6 encounter areas
- At least one area should feature a mini-boss with tactical notes (fight style, when to flee, when to call help)
- Describe the architecture: what was the complex used for originally? How has it been corrupted?
- Include: a lair of a powerful creature, a cultist encampment, a puzzle room, a trapped corridor, a monster breeding ground
- Treasure table for mid-levels with 3-4 magic items
- Clues that hint at the deeper levels and the ultimate evil

5. THE INNER TEMPLE (levels 7+) (2-3 pages)
- Only accessible after completing objectives in the mid-levels
- The lair of the main evil or its avatar/minion
- Describe the throne room/chamber in atmospheric detail
- Boss encounter with full stat block and 3+ special abilities
- The ritual or plan the evil is pursuing
- A final puzzle or moral choice before the climax
- Treasure: 5-7 valuable/magical items

6. ENCOUNTER STAT BLOCKS (1-2 pages)
- Provide 12-15 stat blocks for creatures and NPCs encountered in the adventure
- Use simplified Basic edition format: Name, AC, HP, Attack(s), Damage, Special
- Include: cultists (various levels), monsters, boss figures, NPCs

7. TREASURE CONSOLIDATION (1 page)
- A master treasure table organized by level range
- Magic items with brief descriptions and effects
- Special items that serve plot purposes, not just stat blocks

8. DM'S GUIDE (1-2 pages)
- Running tips for the complex dungeon format
- How to handle player exploration and backtracking
- Random encounter tables for the settlement and wilderness
- 3-5 sequel hooks and expansion ideas
- Tips for pacing a long dungeon crawl
- Advice on adapting difficulty for party size

FORMAT REQUIREMENTS:
- Use clear numbered section headings
- Write stat blocks in compact format
- Make the adventure modular: encounters can be done in any order
- Include secret doors, hidden traps, and hidden treasure throughout
- The settlement should feel alive with rumors, gossip, and NPC interactions
- Use the Classic D&D tone: dangerous, mysterious, with clear cause and effect
