Template
For any causal claim, verify the proposed cause actually preceded the effect in time. Temporality is a necessary condition for causation, and cross-sectional data measuring both at once cannot establish which came first. Confirm the evidence shows the cause happening before the outcome, and flag any causal conclusion drawn from data that captured cause and effect simultaneously, where the time order was assumed rather than demonstrated.
