Do not combine uncertain quantities without propagating their errors into the result. Multiplying, dividing, or subtracting measured values compounds their uncertainties, and a difference of two close, uncertain numbers can have an uncertainty larger than the result itself. Do not report a derived quantity as if it were more certain than the inputs it came from.
