Template

Reason through when the venture or initiative in {venture_context} will reach break-even and whether that timeline is survivable. (1) Separate the fixed costs that run regardless of volume from the variable costs that scale with it, because break-even is where contribution (revenue minus variable cost) covers fixed cost, and blurring the two produces a break-even point that's wrong in either direction. (2) Compute the contribution margin per unit and the volume required for contribution to cover fixed costs, showing the arithmetic, and translate that volume into a realistic timeline given the actual rate of customer acquisition — not the hoped-for one, since optimistic ramp assumptions are where break-even projections most often deceive. (3) Layer in the reality that fixed costs usually grow as the business scales (more staff, more infrastructure), so break-even is a moving target, not a fixed line the current cost base defines. (4) Compare the break-even timeline against the available runway or patience: a sound break-even that arrives after the money runs out is a failure, so this comparison is the decisive one. (5) Stress the timeline: if acquisition is 30% slower or margins 20% thinner, when does break-even move to, and does it still fit the runway? (6) State the expected break-even timing, its sensitivity to the shakiest assumption, and whether the runway covers it with margin — flagging that the gap between projected and survivable is the number that matters.
