THE KEEP (2-3 pages) - Describe the keep in detail: walls, gatehouse, courtyard, barracks, great hall, stables, armory - 6+ named locations within the keep - NPCs: at least 8 named NPCs including: - The keep's commander/garrison leader - A tavern keeper (the heart of social interaction) - A mercenary recruiter - A mysterious wanderer with knowledge of the wilderness - A priest who tends the keep's chapel - A blacksmith/armorer - A cook - Several soldiers/guards (with personality) - The tavern should have: a drinking game, rumors, potential recruits, hidden information - Include a simple ASCII or text map of the keep 3. THE VILLAGE (1 page) - A small village adjacent to the keep - 3-4 locations and NPCs: a farmer, a herb-gatherer, a wanderer's camp 4. THE WILDERNESS (1-2 pages) - 3-5 wilderness encounter areas leading to the dungeon - Random encounter table for the wilderness - Clues about the dungeon's location and danger - The dungeon entrance (hidden, ancient, forgotten) 5. THE DUNGEON BELOW (2-3 pages) - 4-5 dungeon levels/chambers - Each with: - Area name and description - Monster inhabitants with stats - A trap or challenge - Treasure - A connection to the keep's history or the wilderness - The dungeon should feel ancient and dangerous, with monsters that have carved out territories - Include: a monster warlord, a treasure hoard, a sealed chamber with something worse 6. THE DEEP DUNGEON (1 page) - The deepest level accessible to low-level adventurers - The primary threat: a monster lord or evil force - Boss encounter - A larger mystery hinted at for future adventures 7. STAT BLOCKS AND TREASURE (1-2 pages) - 10-12 stat blocks in compact OD&D format - Treasure table 8. DM NOTES (0.5 page) - Running the classic sandbox-style starting adventure - How the keep serves as a hub for multiple adventures - Sequel hooks: the wilderness holds many mysteries
