Verify that the simplifying assumptions behind a model or estimate are stated along with where they break down. Idealizations (frictionless, well-mixed, linear, steady-state) make problems tractable but limit validity, and a result presented without its assumptions can be misapplied outside the regime where it holds. Confirm the assumptions and their domain of validity are explicit, and flag any model result offered as if it held universally.
