Verify that a reported average effect isn't hiding that it helps some and harms others. An intervention with a modest mean benefit may combine a strong benefit in one subgroup with harm in another, and reporting only the average obscures who it's actually for. Confirm meaningful variation in the effect across subgroups was examined where the data allow, and flag any headline average effect presented as if it applied uniformly to everyone.
